Chatham Town Band (1928–1939)
In the tradition of many towns and villages in Britain throughout the later 19th and early 20th Centuries, Chatham first established a brass band in 1928.
Chatham Home Guards Band (1939–1945)
During the war years of 1939 to 1945, all areas throughout the country were called upon to perform local duties of defence, known as the Home Guard. In Chatham, the 12th Battalion, Royal West Kent Home Guards felt itself duty bound to follow the traditions of HM Forces and form a formal Home Guard Band.
Medway Imperial Silver Band (1945)
After the war, upon the standing down of the Home Guard, it was felt essential to ensure the Medway Towns was still provided with a brass band, and so Medway Imperial Silver Band was inaugurated.
Medway Towns Band
It is uncertain when the Band changed its name to The Medway Towns Band, but the earliest date the name is recorded in press documents on file is 1968.
In 1988, two bands were in existence, then known as the Medway 'A' and 'B' bands. These were later individually renamed The Medway Band and Medway Concert Brass.
